What to expect and how to prepare

Application

Keep your resume to one page and lead with outcomes. Focus on what you built, led, sold, organized, improved, or achieved.

We hire from a wide range of academic backgrounds, so evidence of setting ambitious goals and taking ownership matters more than the specifics of what you studied.

Digital Assessments

Candidates applying to the US, Middle East or Asia may be required to to complete a video interview and/or an online skills assessment. This helps us understand how you communicate, think through problems, and would approach the demands of the Associate role.

First-round interview

The first interview is usually a video interview with questions about your background and motivation for joining AlphaSights.

For the best chance of success, you should:

  • Keep your answers focused on the question. Aim for 60 seconds and use a clear structure, particularly when describing an experience or achievement.
  • Be specific about which part of the Associate’s day-to-day work appeals to you, such as managing multiple projects at once, communicating with senior experts, or taking responsibility for delivering for clients.
  • Explain clearly why starting your career in our Client Service team appeals to you, and how you hope it will shape your long-term career.
  • Treat the interview as you would a live conversation by choosing a quiet space, positioning your camera at eye level, and dressing professionally.

Second-round interview

This stage simulates the work of an Associate. You’ll receive different scenarios in which your client needs to understand a specific market, and be asked to identify two or three relevant experts.

During the interview, we’ll assess:

  • Commercial judgment in deciding which experts best fit the client’s question.
  • Communication in explaining the reasoning behind your choices clearly and concisely.
  • Adaptability in responding to feedback and adjusting your approach.

There is no 100% correct expert to choose; the emphasis for this task is on clearly explaining your decisions and adapting to feedback well.

Final-round interview

The final round is with the Vice or Senior Vice President and is most structurally similar to the first round.

Expect more probing questions, deeper “why” follow-ups, and a candid discussion about the demands of the Associate role.

Come prepared with questions about progression, team culture, day-to-day responsibilities, and the habits that distinguish high performers.

Frequently asked questions

No. Unlike consulting firms, we don’t advise clients. We provide access to the knowledge they need and let them make their own decisions. The work is still vital: the knowledge clients access through our partnership is difficult to find and requires your critical thinking and tailored research.

Not in the usual sense. You won’t be constantly prospecting new clients or selling a product made by someone else. You serve a dedicated set of clients and pitch your own creation: the connections you establish between those clients and uniquely relevant experts. It is still client-facing and target-focused: a meaningful part of monthly compensation is based on the high-quality interactions you generate, and success depends on managing relationships and serving clients better than competing providers.

Typically a few weeks from application to offer, depending on role and region. We review applications on a rolling basis, so applying early helps.

Yes. The second-round interview includes case study exercises with the Client Service team. You receive scenarios in which a client needs to understand a specific market, and you identify two or three relevant experts. There is no single correct expert to choose; the emphasis is on explaining your decisions clearly and adapting to feedback.

The first interview is usually a video interview with questions about your background and motivation for joining AlphaSights. Keep answers focused, aim for 60 seconds with a clear structure, and treat it as you would a live conversation. Candidates applying to US-based roles also complete an AI video interview and an online skills assessment.

The final round, with a Vice or Senior Vice President, includes more probing questions, deeper “why” follow-ups, and a candid discussion about the demands of the Associate role.

Make sure you understand the Client Service Associate role. Be specific about which parts of the Associate’s day-to-day work appeal to you, and why starting your career in Client Service appeals to you. For the final round, come prepared with questions about progression, team culture, day-to-day responsibilities, and the habits that distinguish high performers.

No. The role is not deep-dive industry research. You connect the dots quickly and thoughtfully so clients get specific knowledge efficiently. No two projects are alike, and each one requires you to understand an industry’s key players and value chains fast. Research is part of the role, but it is a means to an end, not your core mission.

You may use AI tools in your preparation, but your interview responses should reflect your own experience, judgment, and critical thinking. Third-party tools, including external programs and AI assistants, are not permitted during interviews. You’ll also need to keep your camera switched on throughout.
